The horse has been ridden through history since time immemorial, bearing soldiers, drawing the carriages of kings and bewitching the eye and imagination of countless children. The human race has been dependent on the horse for both social and economic growth which has come about from man?s ability to harness the horse?s power.
Feudalism, that frowned-upon social system of old, in which the poor trudged through mud, carrying the rich aloft, was made possible by the horse (though in horses? support, it wasn?t their wrong doing). The horse enabled the nobleman, with their knights, to protect their homes and land, it was particularly the introduction of the stirrup which made the horse into an essential part of combat. The stirrups enabled horses to be used to carry armoured knights. An entire social system was held up, one could say, by the simple invention of a stirrup, which allowed the power of the horse to be martially utilised.
It wasn?t only violent purposes the stirrup served, however. Travellers and merchants were then able to cover much further distances in relative comfort to carry out their business.
The stirrups have proceeded to be essential in the way in which the horse is used today, especially in recreational sports such as horse racing. Horse racing isn?t only thrilling for the followers and riders (and maybe the racehorses themselves), but additionally it is big business for the horse owners. The owner of a successful racehorse can take home a substantial amount of prize money. The horse can be trained to carry out a number of different disciplines, this applies to racing as well so putting the horse with a good racehorse trainer is of paramount importance. Racehorse training is a fine art, and securing the right trainer for an owner?s animals can mean be a crucial financial decision.
It is crucial that a trainer and an owner have a good relationship, with lines of communication open, as ultimately it?s the owner?s responsibility to ensure their horses are healthy and happy. The trainer can let an owner to know what measures are to be taken, but it is up to the owner themselves to make the necessary actions. If a horse has good health, happy and exercised well, then it will perform to the best of its ability, and that is all owners can ask for -the absolute best return on their investments.
The horse has been and will continue to be crucially in the everyday life of humans. Although their use may have changed over the years, essentially the relationship between man and horse has remained the same ? man is still dependent on the horse.
