The man behind some of the most iconic technological designs of the last decade, British-born Jonathan Ive, has been awarded a Knighthood in New Year Honours.
The KBE was bestowed on Ive - who is the senior vice president of industrial design at Apple - by the Queen for "services to design and enterprise".
He described the honour - which now means that he can call himself Sir Jonathan - as absolutely thrilling and said he was "both humbled and sincerely grateful" before adding that "I am keenly aware that I benefit from a wonderful tradition in the UK of designing and making."
Ive started working for the company back nearly two decades ago three years before Steve Jobs joined Apple again in 1996 and became interim chief executive in September 1997; he holds about 400 patents.
Jobs gave Ive - who is already a Commander of the British Empire - free reign when he came to designing Apple's products and described him as his "spiritual partner" in his biography.
His team has overseen the designs of the iMac, the Powerbook, the G4, the MacBook series, the iPod, the iPhone, the Apple TV and the iPad.
